Local Spotlight: Star-Lite Drive-In

Star-Lite Drive-In

For many, the idea of a drive-in movie is, in fact, something out of a classic movie like Grease or The Outsiders. But for those in the Wiregrass area, the Star-Lite Drive-In is a reality that movie fans can still enjoy—even in the midst of the pandemic!

A Little History

The Star-Lite Drive-In is also known as the Continental Drive-In located about 14 miles outside of Dothan off US HWY 84 in Newton. It was in operation in the area for 14 years when it suddenly announced on New Year’s Eve 2019 that it would be closing. Fast forward to May 2020 and the drive-in was purchased by VIP Cinemas.

The company decided to keep the name the same, but renovated the two-story concession stand and projector building as well as the four existing screens. The overall goal is to provide family-friendly fun at a reasonable price.

Going to the Drive-In

With the promise of cooler temperatures and the need for social distancing still a must, it’s the perfect time to take the family to the Star-Lite Drive-In for a fun, safe night out. Tickets are only $6.99 for adults and $2.99 for kids 12 and under. The bang for your buck is that ticket price includes two movies! That’s right—the double feature is alive and well at this local drive-in!

The concession stand has been revamped with an expanded menu that includes all the typical theater treats like popcorn, candy and soda, plus hot dogs, hamburgers, tenderloins, fish sandwiches, fried mushrooms, and more!

There are four screens to choose from—The Skyview, The Starlight, The Dixieland, and The Goober. You simply tune into to the frequency noted on screen, get your snacks, sit back in your car, and enjoy the show.

How to Get There
